Meet Dr. Emerald

At sixteen years old, I attended my first birth. Looking back, I realize that day quietly set me on the path to becoming a physician and midwife. That same year, while filling in for my sister after she welcomed her baby, I was cleaning a woman’s home when she invited me outside to show me a trillium flower growing in the forest outside her house. I had never seen one before. I was immediately drawn to its quiet beauty and perfect symmetry, though I had no idea then how meaningful that simple introduction would become.

Years later, while studying botanical medicine, I learned that trillium has long been known as Birth Root—a plant traditionally used to support women during labor and birth. It felt less like coincidence and more like a gentle reminder that sometimes our paths begin long before we recognize where they are leading.

Today, the trillium continues to inspire my work. It symbolizes balance, resilience, and new beginnings—the very qualities I have the privilege of witnessing every day as families grow.

As both a naturopathic physician and midwife, I see my role as more than providing medical care. My goal is to help families understand their options, answer their questions honestly, and feel confident making decisions that align with their values. I believe the best care is built on trust, open communication, and a partnership that honors both the science of medicine and the individuality of each family.

I have spent more than a decade caring for women, children, and families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and primary care. My background allows me to comfortably care for both everyday concerns and more complex medical conditions while always remembering that each person is more than a diagnosis.

I am endlessly curious. I enjoy understanding how the body works, solving clinical puzzles, and integrating the best available evidence with the wisdom that comes from listening carefully to each patient. Whether that means helping a newborn overcome feeding challenges, supporting a mother through postpartum recovery, managing chronic disease, or simply offering reassurance during an uncertain season, my goal is always the same: to help people feel seen, understood, and empowered.

I also believe that healing often happens through collaboration. I value working closely with lactation consultants, obstetricians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals because families deserve a team that communicates and supports one another.

Birth is one of life’s most profound transitions. It is both deeply human and deeply sacred, and I consider it an extraordinary privilege to be invited into those moments. Every family who places their trust in me receives my respect, my curiosity, and my wholehearted commitment to providing thoughtful, evidence-informed care.

Whether you’re preparing to welcome your first baby, growing your family, or simply looking for a provider who will listen well and care deeply, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

Meet Mandy

I have spent my whole life in the Pacific Northwest, and I am grateful every day to be where I am. One spot in particular, a beautiful lake, keeps me coming back again and again. Over the years, I have realized birth reminds me of this place. It is both familiar and mysterious, beautifully predictable and wonderfully unpredictable, just like each birth story.

Every pregnancy, every birth, every baby, and every family has their own story to tell. My role as a midwife is not to tell that story for you, but to walk beside you while you discover your story for yourself.

Long before I ever met a midwife—or even knew what one was—I learned what compassionate healthcare looked like by watching my grandfather work. A Depression-era trained dentist, he cared for his patients with gentle hands, kindness, humor, and quiet practicality. My grandmother, his spouse-turned-secretary-turned-assistant, would hold patients’ hands and offer calm reassurance while he worked. Together, they taught me that caring for people is about far more than treating a condition. It is about helping someone feel safe, respected, and genuinely cared for.

I believe birth is one of life’s most personal and transformative experiences. I offer guidance, reassurance, honest information, and a steady presence as you discover your own strength and welcome your baby into the world. One of the greatest joys of this work is witnessing families grow—not only by meeting their new baby, but by discovering new parts of themselves along the way.

Throughout my life, I have learned how deeply healing it is to be truly seen and valued for exactly who you are. That understanding has become the heart of my practice. My hope is every person who entrusts me with their care feels welcomed without judgment, supported without expectation, and celebrated for their authentic self.

As a queer person, wife, parent, and midwife, I am passionate about creating an affirming, relationship-centered space where individuals and families from every background feel safe, respected, and genuinely welcomed. My own experiences with conception, pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and parenting continue to deepen my empathy and remind me that each family’s story is uniquely their own. It is an honor to walk alongside you and share your story as you welcome new life into the world. When not serving clients, you will often find me outdoors with my wife and our three children, swimming, gardening, creating art, baking bread, singing with my choir, sharing good food with friends, or cozied up with a good book.
